The Fontana dell'Acqua Paola, affectionately known as "Il Fontanone" (The Big Fountain), is a majestic baroque fountain located on the Janiculum Hill in Rome. Built in 1612 under the patronage of Pope Paul V, the fountain celebrates the restoration of the ancient Aqua Traiana aqueduct, which brought clean water to the city from Lake Bracciano, 40 kilometers away.
