The Brazilian Academy of Letters (Academia Brasileira de Letras – ABL), located in Rio de Janeiro, is a prestigious cultural institution dedicated to the advancement and preservation of the Portuguese language and Brazilian literature. Founded in 1897, the Academy is modeled after the Académie Française and consists of forty distinguished members, known as “immortals,” who are elected for life based on their literary achievements.
